Terra Umi is built to hold revelation, imagination and research without pretending they are the same kind of knowledge.
This page explains how the archive keeps those forms distinct while allowing them to illuminate one another.
Canon
Canon is the material Terra Umi currently treats as established within the archive: published works, recurring figures, places, principles, symbols and named concepts. Canon does not mean infallible. It means that a piece has become part of the project’s shared vocabulary.
Contradictory branches may remain where they preserve different witnesses, stages of understanding or perspectives within the archive. Changes will be made openly rather than disguised as timeless certainty.
Research
Research notes examine historical, biological, philosophical, scientific, cultural and theological questions. Claims should identify sources where possible, distinguish primary evidence from later interpretation, and remain open to criticism, correction and revision.
Spiritual meaning may guide a question, but it does not remove the need for intellectual honesty. Faith and reason are not enemies; neither should be used to silence the other.
How material is labelled
- Source record — directly traceable material such as a text, artefact, dataset, testimony or documented event.
- Interpretation — a reasoned reading of available material.
- Working hypothesis — an idea being tested rather than asserted as settled fact.
- Symbolic correspondence — a meaningful pattern that may be spiritually or artistically useful without proving historical causation.
- Creative reconstruction — narrative or imaginative work used to explore a possibility.
- Correction — a visible revision made when stronger evidence or better reasoning emerges.
Editorial covenant
- Credit sources, cultures and collaborators.
- Protect human dignity and avoid turning living communities into raw material.
- State uncertainty plainly.
- Preserve disagreement when resolution would be dishonest.
- Judge ideas partly by what they produce in ordinary life: care, conscience, freedom, stewardship and repair.
The archive seeks truth without conquest, faith without coercion and knowledge in the service of life.
